Timor Telecom joins Wikipedia offering mobile data to clients
T clients will be able to access Wikipedia contents at no data cost.
Timor Telecom (TT) announces the new partnership established with the Wikimedia Foundation, the not-for-profit organisation that manages Wikipedia and its associate projects. Through the global program Wikipedia Zero, Timor Telecom is the first operator in Timor-Leste to give its clients the opportunity to access Wikipedia free of data charges with their mobile equipment.
TT, which since the very beginning has proved to be on the forefront of technology, adapting to its clients needs, is now going to offer free and unlimited access to the Wikipedia, for mobile equipment users, thus contributing to the liberalization of Internet. This partnership will benefit all Timorese citizens, specially the student community, by allowing them to access several contents that can enlarge their knowledge, with no associate cost. The Wikipedia Zero program is, then, in line with TT own strategy in what comes to the improvement of the connectivity of the Timorese citizens to the world, contributing to better informed and developed society.
Manuel Capitão Amaro, CEO at Timor Telecom, refers:
"As market leaders, we are very happy with this partnership and for making now part of the Wikipedia global project. The opportunity of offering these contents for free to our clients, thus contributing to the amplification of Timorese people general knowledge, is significantly important to Timor Telecom, which has, for the last 12 years, contributed considerably for the development of the Timorese society."
“Wikipedia Zero is gaining great momentum globally, bringing knowledge to people who might otherwise not have access,” said Carolynne Schloeder, head of mobile partnerships at the Wikimedia Foundation. “We’re thrilled to welcome Timor Telecom and their subscribers to the free knowledge movement.”
